My unsuccessful hike of Algonquin / Wright’s Peak
I attempted to hike Algonquin Peak on October 12th on a Saturday. I was on a trip to Lake Placid for fall break. I researched the hike beforehand and found out it takes 5 hours and a 7 mile round trip from the Loj. I thought this was possible, if we arrived at around 11-12pm from a 3 hour road trip. Unaware of how busy the fall season was, me and my dad parked 2 miles away from the Loj, just to begin our hike at the Loj at around 12:30 pm. We were going at a fast pace because we didn’t know if we were gonna make it to the top of Algonquin. We made it almost halfway around 2pm but decided to turn around because it probably would’ve been dark if we got to the summit of Wright’s / Algonquin Peak, then turned around. When we got back to the car, it was around 4-4:30. I was disappointed because I knew the hike was possible for me if we started earlier but we were on the road for 3 hours before the hike.
