Hard stool caused no issues, soft and bulky is the real enemy (imo)

Had a hard, cracked stool this morning for the first time since healing my fissure recurrence about a month ago and was surprised to see I didn’t retear. It wasn’t a bulky stool by any means and was probably on the smaller side. I’d always read hard stool retore but I think people (myself included) have it wrong (kind of). My recurrence (I was previously healed for almost 3 months beforehand) was from SOFT stool that was bulkier than expected and wide. Everyone says “keep it soft,” but I don’t think that matters much once you’ve healed the fissure, what will retear you is bulk at that point. Hard only matters when the fissure is still active or has just recently healed I feel like. Bulk is your enemy and will cause you to retear if your anus isn’t comfortable stretching that far, hard just increases the likelihood that it retears if it’s bulky as well. To sum up, small and hard stool should most likely not cause a retear unless your fissure just recently healed and is still very weak, otherwise be very fearful of bulky stools, as even soft ones will retear you (in my experience)
