Does Germany really need skilled workers?
Germany often talks about a shortage of skilled workers, but I can’t help but wonder: is this country serious about solving it?
From what I’ve seen, the current coalition has at least made some efforts, like the Skilled Workers' Immigration Act and the Opportunity Card. These steps make it easier for non-EU skilled workers to come here. But with the current government likely to change soon, I worry about what happens next.
The Union, which could be leading the next government, seems focused on stricter migration policies. Wouldn't that make it harder for skilled workers to come here? And the far-right party, well… their stance is pretty clear, they’re not interested in inviting anyone, skilled or not.
So, I’m genuinely curious about your opinion:
- Does Germany truly need and want skilled immigrant workers?
- If so, do you think the current environment is welcoming enough to attract them?
- And if not, what would need to change to make Germany a more attractive destination for skilled professionals?
