Crypto Games: Will This Trend Actually Take Off?
The main argument is that a game can't really be fun and also give you a chance to earn money with cryptocurrencies at the same time. But is that really true? Think about it: the gaming industry is always changing. Remember arcades? Then came consoles, PC games, and now e-sports are blowing up. All of this happened, and people have been enjoying the new developments.
It is true that most crypto games we've seen so far haven't been that great. Axie Infinity, for example, became almost like a boring job for many people instead of being something fun. But to say that games and crypto don't mix... I think that's a stretch.
Wouldn't it be more logical to think that all of this is still very new? Putting a real economy, based on blockchain, inside a game is pretty complicated. The people who create these games need to know a lot, not just about games, but also about economics, how people interact in groups, and, of course, how this whole blockchain thing works.
One thing I always remember is that Blizzard, back in Diablo III, tried to sell rare items for real money in an in-game marketplace. It didn't work out very well, it's true, they even gave up on it. But it wasn't because nobody cared about that. The problem was that the game became kind of unbalanced, and some of the community didn't like it. But the idea itself wasn't bad. Could blockchain be the thing that actually makes this type of thing work right?
I think nobody knows what will happen with these crypto games. I bet we'll still see a lot of bad ones, and a bunch of games that promised a lot but won't go anywhere. But, in the middle of all that, it's quite possible that some games will appear that will change everything we know about video games. The question isn't "if" this will happen, but "when".
So, what do you guys think? Will we one day have really good games with blockchain, or is it just dead?
