Humanoid Stat Blocks and Species Clarification (2025)
I’m currently running U3: Danger at Dunwater and A1: Slave Pits of the Undercity for different groups, and both involve a lot of humanoids. The way humanoids are handled in the new MM means the DM sometimes has to combine a generic Humanoid stat block with a Species.
Obviously, my Orc Bandit has darkvision (120 feet now), but should it also have Adrenaline Rush or Relentless Endurance?
And what about Lizardfolk? The Lizardfolk Geomancer doesn’t have darkvision, but the Lizardfolk Sovereign does. If I make Lizardfolk Toughs, should they have darkvision too? Or is it just a case-by-case design choice?
Curious how others are handling this—are you strictly following the MM or applying species traits more liberally?
