Mean Hozier fans?

A made a lovely Hozier fan friend and I just got a notification they were getting bullied and leaving a platform. EDIT: not here on Reddit.

Their comments and posts were very insightful, sometimes read more like an analysis of a painting, and their responses were level headed but it didn’t seem to matter. Too many comments had an aggressive tone over what? “I think it means…”. was met with “how do you know? You don’t know him.” Not the worst but to go on and on and escalate regardless their response is wild. It must have been exhausting. Then there seemed to be a mean girl group, which I never saw coming from this fan base, but that might be me being naive.

His art is layered and speaks so deeply to people and it’s executed so well. Yes, he is attractive. Yes, he is civic-minded. I didn’t think these ingredients would produce zealots that aren’t defending Hozier but their own idea of him and his inner most thoughts.

So Hozier fans can’t have varied opinions? Since when? Has the discourse gotten worse this year or is it just me? Are there platforms I should just avoid? Am I just old and don’t understand the internet?

Their content was amazing and it’s a shame because they were just lovely. Thank goodness they have a life outside social media, good head on their shoulders, and value mental health over whatever success their accounts have.
