Jeopardy!

ITALIAN WORDS & PHRASES // HAVE I GOT NEWS FOR YOU // ELEMENTAL NAMES // OCCUPATIONAL HAZARDS // A HALF HOUR OF TELEVISION // ENGLISH CLASS

DD1 - 800 - ELEMENTAL NAMES - According to a study published in 2016, this venomous pit viper was responsible for 39% of snake bites on U.S. kids (Isaac lost 3,200 on a true DD.)

Scores at first break: Isaac 2,800, Mark -200, Amy 2,600.

Scores entering DJ: Isaac 5,000, Mark 1,200, Amy 4,000.

Double Jeopardy!

U.N. SECRETARIES-GENERAL // MOVIES AFTER YOU PRESS PLAY // LIT-POURRI // AROUND THE WORLD // WHERE THE BUFFALO ROAM // LET'S GET QUI"ZZ"ICAL

DD2 - 1,600 - AROUND THE WORLD - The Genghis Khan Statue Complex is found about 35 miles west of this city of 1.5 million (Mark doubled to 8,800 vs. 8,600 for Issac.)

DD3 - 1,200 - MOVIES AFTER YOU PRESS PLAY - 1981: the Paramount Pictures mountain fades into a Peruvian peak (Issac lost 5,000 from his score of 15,000 vs. 14,400 for Mark.)

Mark took first place from Isaac with a double-up on DD2, Isaac then regained the lead but lost it again with a miss on DD3. Isaac was able to stay within two-thirds of Mark into FJ, with Mark at 18,400, Issac at 13,600 and Amy with 5,600.

Final Jeopardy!

SCIENTISTS' NAMES - The first man to observe bacteria & protozoa had a name containing the Dutch word for this much bigger creature

Only Isaac was correct on FJ, adding 4,000 to advance with 17,600.

Final scores: Isaac 17,600, Mark 9,599, Amy 1.

Wagering strategy: Isaac's FJ bet would have kept him one point ahead of Mark if they had both missed, but would have allowed Amy to take the win if she was correct. Isaac should have considered a smaller bet that would have shut out Amy and given him the win when Mark missed FJ.

Triple Stumper of the day: In ELEMENTAL NAMES, no one guessed the gym that fit the category, Gold's Gym.

Correct Qs: DD1 - What is copperhead? DD2 - What is Ulaanbaatar? DD3 - What is "Raiders of the Lost Ark"? FJ - What is lion?
