After All-Star Weekend Discussion before start of final 30 games.
I have had the privilege of watching all the games this season. I love this team. I'm excited to see their growth and development. Here are a few of my thoughts half way through...
-I like Mitch. It's nice seeing a different coach other than Pop. But I'm ready for Pop to either come back or they hire a real full time coach...Either Mike or Brett Brown.
-Castle is the steal of the draft. I'm so happy we got him. I'm so excited to watch him play and see him grow that I got season tickets for next year. He will determine how great this team will be. How he plays and how great he becomes will dictate our ceiling. Wemby and Fox will do their thing, but Castle is needed to help with spacing and to take over games.
-Wemby is great, and I know he's been sick. I'm waiting for him to be 100% and bring that fire and energy to match Barnes, Castle, and Fox. The things Wemby does are truly out of this world. It's all the small things and big time moments he does awesome with. EDITTED - WEMBY OUT REST OF SEASON. I HOPE HE TAKES HIS TIME AND IS ABLE TO HEAL AND COME BACK NEXT YEAR.
-Stop with the complaining about CP3 starting. Jeez. This is why he came here and he's been great. The Spurs are not an organization to go back on their word and just not start him. He has done great things during the game and on the bench. We now have Fox, and Castle is becoming a star before our eyes. But we are not winning a title this year, hell we might not make the play in, let's keep our word and continuing being the high class organization we are. I'm sure there's talk, it's tough. Maybe start Castle and bench Vassel. But CP3 needs to stay....for now.
-We are there. We can have a great record and make the PLAYOFFS not the play-in. Hopefully next year. BUT!....the west is stacked and some teams are only getting better. I'd say by Wemby year 5 we should at least make conference finals or second round as teams adjust to CBA and all the expiring rookie contracts. Year 7-10 will be our "window". I'd be MORE than happy if Wemby gets 2 rings. I know there's a lot of expectations on him for more. But the way the NBA is setup now. Getting more than 2 will be difficult. Doable...but difficult.
-My estimate at the beginning of the season was 35-40 wins with a hopeful play-in spot. Out of the last 30 they'll need 12+ wins. I believe after looking at the schedule, they can get win at least half the games, putting them at 38-44. Hopefully they do better and make the play-in. That would be a great accomplishment for this team and Wemby year 2. EDITTED - WEMBY OUT REST OF SEASON. I STILL THINK WE CAN GET 12+ WINS. I PRAY WEMBY IS OK.
