Career parents (mothers) - would you take a leap if you’re also thinking of conceiving?

This one is for the people who juggle careers, and enjoy their profession

I’m the mother to a three-year-old who I absolutely adore and we have to make a decision about baby number two this spring (I am 39.) My husband works a regular 9–5 and so do I, but my industry has been in freefall and I recently got laid off for the second time in five years 😩. It was a total shock and has come right at the moment we were at this family planning crossroads. I’ve been approached by a company who seemed really interested in my experience and it’s a different sector. Would it be dumb to take on a new challenge in the same year we are thinking of conceiving? Am I crazy to potentially start a whole new job and then maybe be pregnant within six months?

The alternative: I ignore this opportunity and take something less well-paid, but easy and just coast until after the baby is born. The downside of this is I think it will be harder to get back on the career ladder and this opportunity that’s come is really rare and feels good. I’m open to all perspectives however.

Nb: we do need both incomes because we’re in a high COL city, we have no family nearby, our son is in daycare and my husband’s company allows him three months parental leave.
