Gerald Ford attempts to eat a Tamale without removing the corn husk during a campaign stop in Texas - 1976
Authentic Mexican cuisine probably wasn’t plentiful in his home state of Michigan back then. Poor President Ford here clearly had no idea you have to remove the corn husk before you can eat the thing. Some even go so far as to say this infamous photo (which would later be branded “The Tamale Incident”) cost him the state of Texas in the 1976 election.
