All those of you who recommended Twice Shy by Sarah Hogle; THANKS YOU'VE RUINED ME, i need more please
I finished it at 4.33am and then proceeded to buy her other book, You Deserve Each Other at 4.45am. Which thankfully shipped out at 11.50am today because I am now addicted to her writing and need more!!!
My first modern romcom was Love on the brain by Ali Hazelwood, and whilst that one will always be one of my favourites because the sex is *chefs kiss*, this one didn't have such explosive smut but...wow. I was not expecting to love this so much??????????
I will be honest and say I was expecting Wesley to be another 6'3 brick wall that only says 10 words the whole book, but to my very pleasant surprise, he's such...a dork?!?!?! like even he's CHATTY and won't shut up since he's warmed up to Maybell!! And the way this gentle giant has social anxiety and tries his best to improve and make the best of his situation is such a green flag...uggghh. I love himmmmmmm. And the way he nervously ran down to the ballroom when Maybell didn't reply his text after 15 mins, only to be met with her bare legs is SO FREAKING CUTE AHHHHH
But what i truly enjoyed the most was Maybell not being annoyingly clueless (to me at least), and the times she was clueless was valid. I mean, any normal person would assume the 6'3 mountain glaring + scowling at you dislikes you. She also wasn't forced to be stupid by the writer just to move the plot forward.
The way they encouraged each other to over come their fears was soooooooo soothing as well. Maybell felt so relatable when she confronted that bitch Gemma and came out not feeling totally triumphant but still proud of herself.
I also love that she's 30 and honest with herself about her trauma, coping mechanisms and not victimising herself more. I like that they were also open about their flaws and weaknesses!! And its not just all about her either, he too had his moments and this was REFRESHING!!!!!!!!!
OVERALL, this book TICKED ALL THE DAMN BOXES FOR ME!!!!!!! enemies to lovers (sort of), forced proximity (the little tent and her being real about morning breath), the heart squeezing scene of him running off into the woods and hiding in a tree, the witty conversations....I could go on, but lastly, i loved that Wesley was open enough to share that he's a virgin at almost 30...omg i was so proud of him being brave enough to share!!!!!!!
Y'all need to take responsibility now and recommend more books like this please!!! HAHAHAH
p.s I somehow imagined Harris Dickinson as Wesley
