I've figured out why the playerbase can't agree in Prowess matchmaking
The main times the majority notices prowess matchmaking as a negative is if they play multiple characters. Outside of that, you won't really notice the matchmaking until you get to a specific prowess combination. And that is Tekken King around 230k to 240k prowess. Once you get here, all bets are off and you're able to play against players of the highest ranks, and will face much better competition than you've faced before. All of your opponent's are killers or other people like you that reached the prowess and then got demoted. The reason this is an issue, is well. There are just limits on how good most people can reasonably expect to get. And once you get put into this level of prowess, you can't get out of it.
Back in Tekken 7 I ended up at tekken god after thousands of hours of playtime. But I knew. I KNEW for a fact I wouldn't make it any higher. I knew that no amount of labbing, mu knowledge, or whatever would get me any higher and there were 3 ranks left. I knew I couldn't compete with the real killers, simply because there are limits to how far you can go without dedicating an undue amount of time and energy to the game. And I just didn't have the mindset to compete at that level (and still dont). I got tekken king several months ago in t8 and I was perfectly happy staying there FOREVER, Since I could see the ranked distribution at the time was similar to where tekken god was in t7.
I don't think anyone below this prowess will ever really understand. It's not like "oh I'm at tekken king, there's only 4 ranks left." There might as well be 50 ranks left squashed into 4. And hitting that prowess level gets you put randomly a third into those 50 ranks and you don't belong there. And that's why you'll get mercilessly demoted from tekken king back to battle ruler. There's more ranks worth of learning you have to do left than the total number of ranks in the game. And now you'll randomly face opponents who could be at any of the 50 at any time. And now you can never leave.
This is something that pretty much no one below 230k-240k prowess understands. However it's much easier to hit that prowess so it's a waiting game to wait for enough people to hit it and get destroyed without hope and realize the system sucks.
