Amazon boycott?
There's a lot of talk about boycotting businesses lately, which I think is great, because it's actual ACTION. My question is, why not Amazon? They treat their workers terribly. We know this. They are TERRIBLE for the environment—mass production, building massive warehouses, emissions from deliveries, and more. They hoard wealth, and encourage a society that just over consumes.
I understand it’s harder to boycott them versus a non-necessity like Starbucks. Their business model makes it so they (or so they say) have the cheapest products, the quickest delivery, the most convenience. How can anyone resist that, especially if we have so little money and so little time?
I’m just saying, I think boycotting and taking action would mean even more sacrifice. I’ve canceled my amazon prime membership, friends have canceled their amazon video subscriptions, etc. etc. I’ve learned how to sew, want to learn how to garden, am learning to make do with what I have. When I need something, I try to see if I can find it elsewhere. It’s hard, but it feels good to stop supporting a business that I know is directly linked to such wide-spread damage.
Is there anything we can do to organize this movement? I feel like everyone knows how bad amazon is now… but it’s hard to let go of. I have friends who say they care about workers rights, care about the environment, etc. etc., but have amazon packages delivered daily. I understand, but it’s frustrating to see. And, from one worker to another, it does feel a bit good to hit that “cancel” button. Makes me feel like I have a little bit more control over my life.
