Week 13 PFF Grades: The Sam LaPorta Show, Linebackers Step Up
Top 5:
- Sam LaPorta - 90.7
- Aidan Hutchinson - 89.9
- Penei Sewell - 80.4
- Alim McNeil - 78.1
- Jared Goff - 77.7
Bottom 5:
- Colby Sorsdal - 45.9
- Jonah Jackson - 48.8
- John Cominsky - 49.9
- Derrick Barnes - 50.8
- Benito Jones - 52.4
Positive Takeaways:
- Monster performance by Sam LaPorta after his play has dipped a bit over the previous 6 or 7 weeks. He was the 2nd highest graded TE in football this week (Kylen Granson? Really?) PFF now has him at the #6 TE spot, up from being at 13 last week.
- Pass rush showed a little bit of life this week. Josh Paschal put together his second solid game in a row (72.4). Romeo Okwara was very good in limited snaps (90.2 grade in 9 snaps). Bruce Irvin only got a 54.3 in 11 snaps. But he did generate 2 pressures and a sack. And Hutch was a beast yet again.
- With Alex Anzalone being out, the other Linebackers really picked up the slack. Jack Campbell had his second consecutive 74.4 this week. Stringing together two really good performances is a good sign for the rookie. Shout out to Jalen Reeves-Maybin with a 76.9 this week as well. Barnes struggled but overall the linebackers picked up the slack this week
- Cam Sutton looked like himself again! a 74.1 this week. His highest grade since week 6. He was only targeted twice and didn't allow any catches and had a pass breakup. So it is nice to see him play well again
- Jameson Williams keeps the positive momentum going! The Bust talk has quieted down quite a bit lately. He has had a grade over 66 for 4 straight weeks now after having a 68.5 this week. He hasn't completely turned the corner but it is a big improvement after getting out to a slow start
- Nice to see a bounce back game from Jared Goff as well. After terrible games the last two games, he needed a bounce back
- Speaking of bounce back's. Graham Glasgow played way better this week. After posting a grade of 41.8 last week, he was back to being himself this week with a 76. So hopefully last week was just a blip.
- Nothing left to really say about Penei Sewell and Alim McNeil. They bring it pretty much ever week. Sewell has had a grade over 70 for 8 straight games now
Negative Takeaways:
- The offensive line, if the Ragnow injury is serious in any way, is going to be a little shaky. Sorsdal had a bad game yet again (I'll cut him some slack, he's a rookie). Jonah Jackson has overall just had a very below average season. Even Decker didn't play well this week. It would be nice to actually have all of our starters out there at once but the football Gods don't seem to want to see that happen.
- Outside of Cam Sutton and a solid performance from Kerby. The secondary struggled yet again. Branch (54.1), Jacobs (54.7) and Tracy Walker (52.7) All didn't play well. Jerry Jacobs play is getting concerning. He was awesome weeks 5-8 but hasn't been good the last 4 weeks. Tracy Walker has also been bad except for week 11. The secondary play is really holding this team back
- Running backs didn't grade very well this week. Monty got a 54.7 and Gibbs got a 60.8. After the 1st quarter the kind of disappeared and neither did much in the passing game. Gibbs had -6 receiving yards and Monty had -1 plus a drop. So hoping they'll bounce back next game.
Lions ranks after week 13:
Overall: 5th
Offense: 3rd
Passing: 6th
Pass Block: 3rd
Receiving: 5th
Rushing: 9th
Run Blocking: 2nd
Defense: 13th
Run Defense: 2nd
Tackling: 10th
Pass Rush: 14th
Coverage: 26th
Special Teams: 11th
So small improvements from last week in overall rankings. Rushing down a little bit. Overall defense up from 17th to 13th. Tackling and Pass rush improved. But Coverage dropped another spot. We need CJGJ back ASAP
