Help with saying “we”

I’m a server at a restaurant and when I ask a customer if they are ready for the bill I say, “Are we ready for the bill?” My boss told me saying we is incorrect English. Is this true? I’ve been saying it for years. I don’t know if I’ve picked it up somewhere but I’m very shocked. Please help.
