Beginner questions (reading vs actually learning the language)

Hi everyone, I've been learning Thai for the past 3 weeks. I read a lot of suggestions from this subreddit about the learning methods - listening and speaking first or reading and writing first. In the beginning I tried the first one but it turned out that I have absolutely zero idea how to manage it as I need to make notes and the romanization is the worst as I am not a native English speaker. In the end I've settled with the latter option.

I've gone through all the consonants and vowels (uff), when i started to actually read aka recognize the letters I added tones (this past week). I think I found a pretty good table that explains the tones very well but I have a hard time reading. One word takes me at least a minute to figure out how it's pronounced with tones. Will this get any better? What's the best method to speed up the process, is it just a simple repetition of reading various words or is it easier to first learn the words (how they sound) and then connect it with spelling?

I haven't really "started" to learn the language, just been learning through simple stories or watching YT videos on specific themed vocabulary.

Would you recommend going ahead with the grammar now or should I put more time into drilling the reading with the proper pronunciation?
