I want Limbus Company to have more difficult endgame content
Limbus Company doesn't have any content that forces me to use every single tool at my disposal unless I intentionally neuter myself.
I've been seeing discussions surrounding rupture and its crazy damage ceiling for a while now, but every time I saw them, it made me question: "when do I ever actually need that much damage?"
That question isn't just limited to rupture, it applies to every other statuses. Burn has a crazy high ceiling with dark flame, Sinking has a crazy high ceiling if you can maintain its count, Tremor has the tremor souls combo etc. Every single status in the game has potential to go absolutely nuts if people really dug into it. But there's almost no point in the game where you're incentivized to put that much effort in.
And there's a good reason for it. Every single content in Limbus can be beaten by doing the following two things:
Clashing well.
Reading the gimmicks.
That's it. If you can do those two, your team requires zero synergy whatsoever. Maybe add a step 2.5: occasionally use fluid sac, but that's really it.
This also includes the railway fights, which are considered to be Limbus's endgame content. Even here, almost every single fight boils down to "can you clash well" and "can you do this particular gimmick for this fight."
There's nothing in the game that asks you to go above and beyond. There's no ultra difficult boss that even veterans of the game would have trouble with. There's no monthly raid where the top 10% of players get special platinum banners. There's nothing really there. I guess there's MD hard, but optimized MD hard is actually pretty easy since you scale way harder with EGO gifts than the enemies do with mounting trials.
The two most memorable fights in Limbus for me were Kromer and Ardor Blossom Moth. Kromer was the first real boss fight for me 3 days into Limbus Company when my best ID was an underleveled uptie 2 Nclair and every other ID was equally underleveled and at uptie 1. It was an uphill battle that made me diverge everything on dealing damage to Kromer's mouth while my other IDs took losing clashes or blocked Kromer's arms.
And as for Ardor Blossom Moth, this was day 1 of Mirror of Wuthering and I was forced to fight the Moth which had the same stats from railway 3 on floor 2 with my burn team. Did you know that the Moth has a 0.2x damage resistance against wrath damage when every single ID had a wrath attack? I was forced to reset over and over again as my team was on a timer from its constant burn application. I couldn't switch my team to IDs that could clash better or deal more damage. My options were extremely limited. I eventually figured out that I could double slot magic bullet Outis, but I still got demolished over and over again until I finally staggered it and beat it after 30 grueling minutes of attempts. This was my most fun and memorable fight in Limbus and nothing has come even close to topping it (except maybe the aforementioned Kromer fight).
I want to experience that high again, the high of overcoming hopeless odds as I use everything in my toolset to barely clench out a victory. That's how I felt for Lobcorp's days 47~49, and that's how I felt throughout Ruina's Keter realization, and that's how I felt for Limbus's early days. But whereas Lobcorp and Ruina would still kick my ass despite my hundreds of hours of playtime and thoroughly knowing the mechanics of the game, Limbus kind of just rolls over at most points.
I think the 9-turn ex clear requirement on the Sloth Peccatulum in Canto 7.5 was a step in the right direction. I only beat it on my first attempt by spending Superbia to use Greg's Solemn Lament, and even then I barely clutched it. That was a satisfying experience without being overbearing on players that might not have the tools to beat it yet.
The endless MD floors update that will eventually be implemented will probably scratch this itch of mine, but until then I can only wait.
