Why i believe that people get weirded out by mass shooters
So i didn’t know how to put the title into words but i tried my best, this little post is about why people see mass killers in a different light post-mortem or after the attack
First thing - pattern recognition, most if not all people connect murdering to 3 or 4 (or more) categories
- Gang violence
- Drunken violence
- Crazy person
- Self defense
- Accidental
We dont really try to connect dots in cases like gang violence- unlike for example when the person is severely mentally ill - OR a political radical, although its quite different
So the average person would imagine the mass shooter as a weirdo, sexual deviant or just flat out insane
So this might also be, why everyone is completely weirded out after the attack,
For example- they might think the person was trying to manipulate them or lure them into a trap, even if the person is just being nice
Or if the person invited them to their home
They might look back and think the person wanted to torture and kill them - even if that wasn’t the case
Another thing is, that it wouldn’t feel right, so for example if a person you know, who always looked happy and smiled killed themselves you would be shocked and wouldn’t believe it And you would too, probably connect dots where there arent any
Like the person asking you out for a drink or telling you they are sick.
As it feels out of place the average person would try to find a reason why, or how it even happened
So they would basically become somewhat delusional in their post mortem analysis and connect non existent dots in an attempt to find out how or why a attack happened
Thats also a reason school shootings are so unique, since its not like with gangsters for example, which are known to be violent and kill their rivals.
School shootings are very different, you probably sat next to the shooter, so it completely weirds you out, and in most cases the person doesn’t show any signs, so the average person attempts to find them.
