Getting an older puppy?
Hello!
We are looking for a standard poodle puppy and there is one puppy we got to meet that is 7 months old.
More about the puppy: She has a lovely calm temperament and according to the breeder she was always calmer and more independent in her litter. The mom is also lovely and well behaved. She has been raised in a family home with kids and other dogs (mom, littermates and I think another small poodle). In terms of socialisation she is used to people coming over, has been in a car and on leash, has been to the park and is used to grooming. They also mentioned she has been crate trained and generally does ok with it. She seems well behaved besides jumping when greeting, which I think is still trainable. They haven’t taught her any commands though.
I am wondering if it is a good idea to get an older puppy? I see a lot of advantages in it, as the small puppy phase is over but I am wondering if it’s going to be harder to train her or socialise in more crowded settings? For example, I would like to train a dog to go with me to the climbing gym which can get loud and crowded (I would start slow during quiet times and short visita and build up) Also will she have a difficult time adjusting to the new home since she is older? Any other questions I should ask the breeder?
