[Press Conference] Ruben Amorim: "I want to talk about that (worst team quote) - I was talking more for myself than for my players. If you look around every time I speak I try not to put my players on spotlight. I know you want headlines so sometimes it's really hard to hide the frustration"
Amorim and Maguire's Press Conference - Utd vs Rangers - Europa League
Post is being updated with new quotes...
Amorim on his quote:
"First of all, I want to talk about that. I was talking more about myself than for my players. It's more for me, talking more about me than the players. If you look around when I speak, every time you push about the players not being good enough, I take the spotlight away from my players. I understand I gave you that headline but I get frustrated sometimes."
"If you want, I can be delusional and say different things. It's a good thing to be honest with you."
"I'm not taking responsibility away from the players, what I'm saying is the message you guys show is I'm putting it on the players. In this moment, we are performing really bad and our results are really bad in the moment. It's everything together, the players, the staff, and I'm the biggest responsible for the results."
Amorim on why he talked in the dressing room after the game when he normally waits a day to calm himself down:
"I didn't think - that's why. I'm a young guy and sometimes I make a mistake, and that's why I don't speak after the game. This game, I needed to talk and maybe it was a mistake. Then I get more nervous and go to the conference really nervous and say things you shouldn't say. I don't promise I won't do it again, I don't know, but I'll try to improve."
Maguire also weighs in: "I think as players, we were frustrated and disappointed, coming on the back of a good away perfomance and beating Southampton. We have to look at oursleves and take responsibility."
Maguire on his leadership role
Maguire: "I wouldn't put it down to that, whether I'm captain or not, I see myself as a leader in this group of player. I'm experienced and now playing for this club, there are ups and downs. It's part and parcel of playing for this club. I look at previous players and the likes of Rooney and Beckham, they had a large amount of scrutiny on them and they're world-class players."
Maguire on the form: "If I could explain it, we would change it straight away. Like you said, we have players who have played numerous games internationally and have won lots of trophies in club football, but we're not playing well enough as a team at the moment and the league shows that. We need to stop looking for excuses and it's really important as an individual you improve yourself."
Maguire on Zirkzee: "I sent him a private message after the [Newcastle] game. Listen, Joshua is a good player - you don't play for this club if you're not a good player. We have amazing fans who stick with us through thick and thin. It's not about individuals."
Amorim on the 'storm'
"The most important thing is to think we can improve right away in the next match. Imagine tomorrow we don't suffer a goal at the start, we score and play well, it will change the enviroment here and everything. We are going to suffer and for me, that was really clear. It's getting really hard.
Maguire on the players' nerves: "No, we spoke about the first goal at Old Trafford and it's not teams are coming and opening us up and breaking us down. The game against Brighton was 50/50, it could have gone either way and we need to stop giving away the first goal. Football games are defined by small margins. We know things can turn and tomorrow is a chance to go out there and put on a performance."
Amorim on Garnacho interest
"Guys, I understand the question. But let's focus on the game, I don't want to talk about that, especially before a game. The players are all here, they are all involved."
Maguire on Rangers: "We expect a tough game. They're going to come here and give everything, but our focus is on ourselves and making sure we perform after a bad defeat at the weekend."
Amorim on Rangers:
"The full-backs are really high and they have talent to score in the final third, so it's one more difficult game and it's important for us because we want to skip the Europa League play-off. The Rangers fans will make some noise, so we are prepared, and our fans will be prepared."
