The rolex reseller market is ridiculous

I've been considering buying a datejust 36, fluted, jubilee bracelet with either the black dial or green dial for a while now.

Visiting an AD and I got the expected response (Those models are popular, there's a long waitlist, we'll call you when one becomes available)

I look on various online marketplaces (ebay, chrono24, watchfinder etc) and there's 100s of these models listed at 9-10k for a 2024 model. But the craziest thing is none of them appear to sell, the listings remain there for months on end.

I've offered £8500 to a few of these sellers and my offers been rejected, bare in mind this is over £500 over the retail price and yet these resellers would rather hold onto to try and squeeze an extra few hundred pounds out of something that they're already making a profit on and aren't selling any time soon.

It seems there's a false belief from resellers that they have something thats worth more than it really is. Most people aren't in a massive rush to buy a luxury watch and so the value of skipping the queue isn't worth as much as these people want it to be. On top of that most people like me who only plan to own the one luxury watch and not start a collection are looking for a watch that's brand new and unworn, which typically means was manufactured this year. That means the longer these resellers hold onto their stock the more devalued it becomes (save for them being lucky and that model becoming discontinued)

Anyway that's my rant over, just thought I would see if that's anybody else's experience as well. It definitely feels like there's a disconnect between sellers and buyers.
