Day Trip Mondello to Valley of Temples

During late August taking a day trip from Mondello to Valley of Temples. We have a rental car. Would like to stop at a winery on the way there or back and/or any other point of interest. We also plan on stopping to eat. Any insights, suggestions and/or recommendations would be appreciated.
