Thoughts on this job interview? Exciting but my kid is so young.

I’m five mins out of a job interview and sharing thoughts. I was laid off last month which has been shocking, and now this opportunity has come up which is really rare. However I LOVE being a mom. My kid only just turned 3. I work a four-day week (common here) so have him on Mondays all to myself. I cherish our one-on-one time. He’s in nursery/ daycare for four other days.

The new role would be in a fast paced environment. The boss asked me if I’d be willing to give up the non-working day. Am I? He’ll be in school in 18 months time so would be five days then anyway. But 18 months is a long time away!

My spinning thoughts:

• can both parents really have careers and allow me to be a good mom?

• is there a delicate way of asking about family realities or checking about the culture for parents during the interview process?

• we think we want another baby. Yet it’s a department Head role. To come in and then disappear within the year, is that unethical?

Any reframes helpful. The job is so exciting and won’t come around again, but I love my baby so much and don’t want to lose him.
