Flying Newark ---> Athens ---> Chania. How long should my layover be in Athens to clear immigration (entering Schengen area)

Title. I am flying Newark ---> Athens ---> Chania. Layover in Athens is about an hour and 40 minutes. This feels a little tight. Should I get a later flight from Athens to Chania so my layover is longer? Thank you.
